Pain is inevitable, Suffering is optional

There is a famous quote by Japanese author Haruki Murakami that says “Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.” I believe this is true, but for it to be useful to us, first we have to understand the difference between pain and suffering. This is where psychotherapy comes in. With the right support, we can start to see our pain through new eyes, and find the small spaces where we can start to heal and release the weight we are carrying that is not actually ours.

What Happens in a Counselling Room

When you are in the middle of your pain, it can be difficult to reach out. Yet this is where you can most benefit from connection. I believe that you deserve skilled, professional support to move through your challenge and reconnect with the life you want to be living. In this transition, you deserve a safe space where you can:

• speak openly and honestly about your struggle without any fear of judgment
• express your feelings, in all their intensity, without worrying about the impact to others
• explore and define your values, dreams, life goals, and get to know all of you better
• let in a new perspective and start to heal emotional wounds
• practice new ways of showing up in relationship, and in the world

We have all experienced periods of pain, loss, and struggle, and we all deserve knowledgeable and loving support as we find our way through.

Choosing to do Nothing is still a Choice

Any solution that requires you to wait until your situation changes on its own is disempowering and can lead to frustration, hopelessness and a sense of being stuck. In this place, it is easy to end up repeating unsupportive patterns over and over.
I believe that moving through personal crisis can be transformative. When you allow yourself to access the support that is available, moving through your dilemma can open the door to healing long held emotional wounds, reveal the truth of who you are, and shine a light on ways to step forward that were not visible before.
